I don’t have a Christmas tree this year, but I do have a plenty of sufganiyot instead. So I’m going to share one of my favorite sculptures I made earlier this year at @junkpotstudio. This hand-built sculptural panel a tribute to Dorothy Cormier, a co-proprietor of Houston’s Silver Slipper— a jukejoint, where everyone could find some festive mood every Saturday until a few years ago, when Covid hit, and it was decided that the place should remain closed. Dorothy would always give me the biggest, tightest hugs and brightest smile whenever I visited Silver Slipper.

In turn, I hope to bring a smile to your faces with my artwork.

I’m thankful to be able to keep making my art, regardless of my whereabouts. Back in 2018, a great artist and mentor, Jesse Lott, told me that wherever I end up, I will keep creating art—whether in a studio or on my lap, with a community or alone—because I can’t live any other way. And I live up to those words.

I might move too often to fully immerse in a tight-knit artistic or musical community of like-minded individuals in person, but I am truly thankful to be able to keep up the connections across the globe (and the web). Thank you all for your support, interest, and shared experiences of art and music appreciation.

Revisiting some of the sculptural work I did at @junkpotstudio this past spring. This relief tile was inspired by a couple of dancers I saw at @thebigeasyblues during my last visit to Houston, TX. I often saw the short, plump gentleman — an avid dancer — in the club before I left H-town, but I never knew his name.
